Shawna has been in pre-term labor since Tuesday. ☺ Who's the best psychic---make a guess---when will Shawna finally have baby girl Skye??!! I guess Wednesday, April 2nd. A ♥grand prize♥ will be awarded to the correct guesser.
I vote Tuesday, April 3. Auntie Shawn Now, for the rules of 'Speed Scrabble' The Wahlquists taught it to me last year. LOVE IT!!!!
You play with a regular scrabble game of 100 tiles. You do not use the little stands for the letters. Turn all the tiles wrong side up and each person (for 100 tiles 2-4 players, 5-8 players use 200 tiles so you will need another scrabble game and be sure to mark the backs of those so you can return them to their original game box) Each player takes 7 tiles and places them wrong side up in front of them. Someone says 'Go' and everyone turns their tiles over and start making words with the tiles right in front of you. Just like a scrabble game only you make your own without a board and they must all connect forming words. The first person who can use all of their 7 tiles and make connecting words says 'go' and everyone takes two tiles and everyone keeps making words. As soon as someone uses All their tiles that person says'go' and everyone must take two more and so on and so on until someone has used all their tiles to make connecting words and yells 'stop'. You cannot continue to put tiles down, you must stop. We allow 2 letter words and up but no proper names. Then the person who said stop is the one who starts and you go through all of the words he has made. Anyone can challenge a word if you think it is not spelled correctly or if you do not think it is a word. You do not have to define your word and you to not have to justify why you spelled it. You then go through everyone's words and see if they can be challenged or not. 'speed scrabble' is a game where you DO NOT want points. So everyone adds up the tiles that were not used in their little crosswords. The person who won gets 0 points. The next person to him may have had 3 tiles left adding up to 3 or 7 or whatever the number is on the front of the little tiles left. You add those numbers together to get each persons score for that round according to what was left on the tiles in front of them. If someone challenges a word and wins that person gets 10 points credit to be used toward the taking off of points in their future during the games. Such as, I challenge the word 'phat' and I find that I am correct, it is not in the dictionary so I now have a -10 that I can use if I get points on the next hand. Say, I had tiles left over on the next hand that totalled 8 points, I would take 8 points from my 10 and I would have -2. If I challenge and the word is in the dictionary, I receive 10 points added onto my score for being wrong and the person who had the word and it was correct gets 10 points taken off of their score. Remember, you DO NOT want points! This is just a brief overview and remember, it now becomes YOUR own game and you can make up whatever rules you want. We used to use a regular dictionary and that caused enough trouble with so many words that we new were words but weren't in that dictionary that we all purchased an official Scrabble dictionary-2005 or the latest and said, "If the word is in THIS dictionary, it counts. If it is not in here and you have seen it somewhere else or whatnot, too bad, it is not in the OFFICIAL Scrabble dictionary and that is final!!!!!~ Zero tolerance! It is a fast moving game and many times someone will be yelling go and you have hardly connected any tiles to form words. Too bad, keep going. The more you play, the better you get. If you start out or at any point where everyone is stuck and cannot make any words, you all agree to 'go' and take 2 more and get on your merry way. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions, please ask. I am here for YOU!!!
I loved catching up a bit on your blog. I am cracking up at the school (venting) story. You deserve to vent! You handle things so well.
Cheryl's store--- She buys lots of (cheap) things. She gives each kid FAKE money. (depending on age) She lets them shop without anyone telling them what to buy! Every kid loves it. Cheryl tries to do it on Holidays/special events.
She helps the kids to count & manage money! She is so good at everything!!
